As is the risk with the majority of beachside structures across Australia, the harsh coastal environment can have a significant impact on the durability and structural integrity of residential and commercial structures. This was particularly evident in the 1960’s block sitting along Avoca Beach. Subject to years of prolonged exposure to the chloride-rich sea air, the site was suffering from severe corrosion related spalling of both internal and all external concrete elements. Deterioration of the structure reached a point where the local council issued a safety order on the structure resulting in the wonders having to vacate the entire block and install safety fencing to restrict access to the site.
RM Watson was responsible for transforming the beachside apartment block which was previously at risk of falling into disrepair. Following the completion of urgent make safe works, the RM Watson team then undertook the following works to help revitalise the structure.
RM Watson’s efforts on site worked to transform the structure, helping the owners to restore the market value of their asset and ensuring the structural integrity of the site for many years to come.
