Scope

Designed by W.L Vernon in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales was the first purpose-built art gallery in NSW and warehouses the largest public art collection in the state. RM Watson was engaged by The Gallery to repair the portico, lobby and vestibule slabs of the main entry to the gallery.

Works undertaken across the duration of the project included:

  • Diversion of pedestrian access, while works were undertaken to the main gallery entry.
  • Establishment of access and ventilation to the gallery sub-floor.
  • Fabrication and installation of a steel support structure to increase live load capacity of existing entry slab.
  • Break out, preparation and patching of all drummy, cracked and spalled soffit cover concrete while ensuring no damage was done to the ornate tiled top surface finishes.
