Located in Sydney’s CBD and attracting approximately 1million visitors per year, the Australian Museum is one of Sydney’s most popular tourist attractions. RM Watson has been engaged to undertake critical fire safety compliance upgrade across the facility in response to the issuance of a Fire Safety Order from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry &Environment.
The project involves the wholesale removal of flammable ACP cladding across external facades of the site building and the installation of a compliant, solid aluminium cladding system to satisfy the requirements of the Fire Safety Order.
Working in close collaboration with the Australian Museum Trust and SPMA, our project team have developed a bespoke project methodology to ensure the continued progression of works without compromising the Museum's diverse operations. This includes protecting the prestigious "Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru" exhibition, ongoing research activities across the Museum’s specialised research centres, daily educational programs, and the continuous flow of visitors exploring the Museum's extensive permanent collections.
