RM Watson was engaged by IRT Group to replace all combustible ACP cladding at IRT Links Seaside, a high-rise retirement village and care facility in Wollongong. Specific works delivered across the project included:

• The stripping and disposal of combustible ACP cladding and framework.
• Design, construction and certification of replacement cladding.
• Re-certification of the existing structure to support the loads imposed by the replacement cladding system.

Works at IRT Links Seaside were carried out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic between March-July 2020. As an operational retirement community and care facility, RM Watson had to develop a comprehensive COVID-19 management plan after work commenced on site to ensure the absolute safety of workers and residents.

Access systems used across the project were designed to limit potential interaction between residents and the site team. Using a combination of scaffolding, swing stages and rope access, eliminated the need for internal access, ensuring the safety of all project stakeholders.

Implementing a strict protocol for access, resident interaction and programming resulted in the team completing the project three months ahead of schedule without any risks associated to COVID-19.
