The Metro Residences, Chatswood

Minimising stakeholder disruption and placing the safety of the public at the core of a complex construction methodology has resulted in RM Watson being appointed as Head Remediation Contractor for the flammable cladding replacement works to The Metro Residences, Chatswood.

Completed in 2014, The Metro Residences is Sydney’s largest transit-oriented development. Featuring three high rise towers housing 553 apartments across the Metro View (40 storeys), Metro Spire (27 storeys) and Metro Grand (38 storeys). The towers are founded on a landscaped podium with communal facilities for residents, under which sits the five level Chatswood Interchange retail centre, Chatswood Transport Interchange (housing rail, metro and bus services) and a busy pedestrian thoroughfare.

The remediation of The Metro Residences has been identified as the most complex and high profile of all projects included in the NSW Government Project Remediate programme.

Key scope items to be managed by RM Watson across the high-profile project include:

• Removal and recycling of approximately 18,000m2of combustible cladding across the 3 residential towers and communal podium areas.
• Installation of a compliant replacement façade system inclusive of cladding, sarking, framing and insulation in accordance with the Project Remediate Pattern Book.
• Design and implementation of a bespoke access system to safely access all nominated façade locations and ensure the continued operations of the key commercial areas below, including the Chatswood Retail and Transport Interchange.
• Stakeholder & communication management with multiple parties including apartment residents, Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro , Willoughby Council and local retail owners.
